Julie Kid

The final glazed piece of my younger sister Julie. Think this is the best resemblance Ive gotten in a sculpture so far. Think she'll dig the emerald color choice.

Mother Earth

Had a lot of fun with this piece. The model had a bunch of tribal tattoos that I exaggerated over the whole piece.

StoneHand

Had fun with this one. Became tired of sculpting fingers that were the size of pencil lead. Kept this one very rough because I was pretty sure it was just going to collapse as the clay dried. Glad it survived.

Mr. Clean

He's angry because he's covered in clay.

Laura Weathered

Another bust. This one was placed in the camp fire again and gained some interesting colors from it.

Another head study. I like the stone look. Painted it black and then sanded it to reveal some clay underneath. Makes it look weathered. Shall experiment some more with this technique for sure.

Magma Dreads

One of the coolest paint jobs I've done yet. A quicker sculpt and a fun time painting it in acrylic. Stands at about 14" tall. The model's hair was really that Huge!

Snowy Sea

A quickie gesture piece. Had fun doing the glaze work.

Crazy hair lady

A very awesome model. The hair was only exaggerated a little. Her dreads were absolutely huge! Made her head and hands a little small I think. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with this one. Probably the largest sculpt I've done in ceramic so far. Stands around 2' tall.

Julie (wip)

Bust of my younger sister Julie. I think this one has some likeness to her. I spent a lot of time focusing on her face. Exaggerated her hair length a bit to make it more elegant in a big bun. Close to real life proportions. About 18" tall.

Andrea (wip)

A bust of my older sister Andrea. The resemblance of her face could have been a bit better. Its more like a 3d caricature of her I think. I had a lot of fun with the details of her hair. Done from a series of photos rather than from life. She lives about 3,000 miles away, so its tough to have her pose for 5 hours. It came out alright. WIP, It still needs to be fired and painted. Transporting the piece to the kiln without breaking the hair will be fun. Slightly smaller than life scale. About 16" tall.

Deflated

This piece was chemically glazed in a camp fire on the beach. Gave the final look a very random and organic quality. It almost looks as if the sculpture was uncovered from Pompeii. I'm pretty happy with the pose also. The model bravely chose a very dynamic position to hold for 3 hours.

Bouquet Seppuki

This one I had a lot of fun with. The model was initially posed with his hands symmetrically resting on a large bucket... Boring. I decided to spruce it up a bit and add some symbolism to the piece. It represents the internal strive of rejection. Who out there now questions my sanity? I got some really abnormal effects with layering glazes that made for some interesting texture.

RedAsia

I like how this one came out. The dynamic pose of the model was great. The hips of the model seem slightly off. I decided to paint this one with acrylic paint. As much as I dislike the color red, It works well for this piece.

Happy Girl Sitting (finished)

8" tall. Various green glazes. Hands dried too much before I had a chance to do the fingers. The block she was leaning could have been done more creatively.

Cold

22" Acrylic paint. Dig the antiqued paint. Something more subtle than white and blue might have been wiser. Broke into about 5 pieces before firing. I saved it with super glue.

HeftyDemon

Had fun with this one. Done on Halloween week. He was wearing bat wings but I opted to exclude them. Tried to make the glaze look like he is sitting in muck. Special thanks to Quebe for contributing the horns.

Butler

I dig the green glaze. His arms are a bit shorter than they should be. Wish I could have fully carved out the feet also. If I did cut a cavity between the legs while the clay was still wet it would have definitely toppled.

Heartbroken

Kind of a sad pose. Tho model wasn't holding anything so I decided to add the chrome rose. The shoulders feel disconnected.

Rusty Man

14 " tall. Model was handicapped and his left arm was not proportional.

12" tall. White crackle glaze with Ink wash.
